FORMER Highlands Zone rugby league manager and selector Jackson Appo has described rugby league great Bal Numapo as a disciplined player.
“His level of discipline had made him a great Papua New Guinea Kumul and Highlands Zone captain,” he said.
Appo said Numapo’s passing had left a vacuum in rugby league administration.
“I was a spectator at the Lae Rugby League ground during the 1984 zone trials and for the first time, I saw him playing at centre for the Highlands Zone,” he said.
“During Numapo’s rugby league career from the 1980s to 1990s, I became team manager for the Highlands Zone.
“The late Konzi Kara was coach, Karo Kamu trainer and Numapo captain.”
Appo also described the 57-year-old Chimbu native as a man of few words who let “his actions on the field do the talking”.
“On behalf of the rugby league fraternity in Eastern Highlands, we pass our condolences to the family and relatives of the late Bal Numapo,” he said.
