Late postings of teachers and the delay in release of their resumption of duty summary sheets forced the postponement of classes for a week at the Bainyik Primary School in Maprik.

Joanne Toliman Rex, head teacher of the school in the Maprik urban local level government, in East Sepik, said they had to start a week later than other schools.

Rex blamed the division of education in the province for failing to give out the resumption of duty summary sheets form and delaying the posting of teachers.

“How can the teachers start if the forms are not ready?”

Rex said they received the forms only last week.

She said the school has more than 400 students but this is likely to increase when transfer students and new Grade three intakes arrived.

Rex said the school was supposed to have 12 teachers but only 10 had started classes.

Rex urged parents to pay the project fees of K100.

She urged parents who were there to register their children to work with the teachers in raising the education level of students.

“Teachers and the board of management alone cannot change the school and we need the support of the communities,” she said.
