A funeral service will be held today for musician Moses Tau, who died on his 49th birthday last week.
He will be laid to rest today at his Barakau village, Central, outside Port Moresby.
Minister for Lands and Physical Planning and Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko said Tau was an icon in the PNG music industry and his death was a big loss.
Tkatchenko said Tau’s death had shocked the music industry and his Motu-Koita people who regarded him as a champion .
“Whenever you are with him, you feel happy, you enjoy yourself and he puts a big smile on your face,” he said.
“I was actually heart-broken when I heard that our leader in the music industry has been taken away so soon.”
Tkatchenko paid tribute to a friend and someone who had supported him.
“He was part of my campaign,” he said.
“He did over 30 concerts and the people absolutely loved him.
“His music will always remain in us forever but his personality will be definitely missed.
“We are going to find it hard to replace such a wonderful Papua New Guinean like Moses Tau.
“He opened up so many doors in so many areas, from his gender through to his music and through to his entertainment.
