Law against having children

Letters

THIS is in regards to the editorial on May 30 and Professor Glen Mola’s concerns on population growth and employment.
It is true and quite obvious that increasing population growth will impact on land distribution, food security and effective services.
Already, classrooms – for example – are overcrowded and teachers have been unable to handle unruly behaviour. The health services, likewise, cannot effectively serve the ballooning population.
We can control population growth through legislation by making laws that control the number of children a couple can have.
This law will apply to everyone across the country, from young to middle-aged productive married couples to have probably only three or four children per family.
Proper penalties should be in place to enforce such a law. The law should also deal with women and girls who have children outside of wedlock.
This will be one of the only ways in which population growth can be controlled and jobs and good-quality public services guaranteed.
Without such a law, population growth cannot be controlled and will spiral out of control as we are seeing at this stage of the nation’s development.
