The Government station at Angoram in East Sepik is facing escalating law and order problems but police believe they can be managed.

Acting East Sepik police commander Inspector James Baugen said law and order in Angoram was getting worse each day because youths turned to destroying government properties and harassing public servants when they had little quarrels among themselves.

There was an attempted arson on the police station at the weekend but police moved in quickly and arrested a man.

He was in possession of a firearm.

Another two men were arrested and charged with  assault.

“There have been a lot of bad things happening at Angoram. We have five regular policemen there but they can’t contain law and order because of bad management,” Baugen said.

“I am of the view that there is a breakdown in command and control of police at Angoram, so I am replacing the police station commander.

“Senior Sergeant Paul Sim, from the Wewak Highway Patrol, is now the commander.

“He has a wealth of experience in police work and I believe he will restore the command and control Angoram police,” Baugen said.

He urged everyone in Angoram to support the new PSC and his policemen to weed out crime.
