LAW and order is the primary cause of problems in Angoram district, East Sepik, according to a local businessman.

Francis Tobias, owner of the Wavi Guest House in Angoram, said despite the investment of K2 million by Angoram MP Salio Waipo in the district hospital, law and order still affected public servants.

“Currently what is happening in Angoram is the law and order situation,” Tobias said.

“We have 10 houses of policemen incompletely built and standing in Angoram with no policemen inside.”

He said there were only three policemen looking after the 60,000 population in the electorate.

“It’s only 10 to 15 people causing problems for us,” he said.

“They are capitalising on the law and order situation.

“Issues at the Angoram hospital are centred on law and order.

“We can put down K2 million but if safety of health workers is not guaranteed, it is plain wastage.

“Safety of other public servants in Angoram is the same.

“I hope new Angoram district administrator Michael Isia will restore the confidence of the public and bring back public servants to work in Angoram.

“What is needed in Angoram is to bring in more policemen, establish a court house, and construct a rural lock-up in Angoram.”

Tobias said maintaining law and order is the way forward for the district to progress in terms of development and service delivery
