Law scholarship awarded in honour of late Miss PNG

SAMANTHA Mosoro, 22, is the first recipient of the Late Ruby Anne Laufa Award.
The scholarship was created in honour of Laufa, the Miss South Pacific PNG 2012-2013 and an ambitious lawyer who passed away last year.
Molly O’Rouke, the Miss South Pacific Island Pageant PNG chairperson, said the award was in remembrance of Laufa “so that her legacy can live on”.
The award was established to assist aspiring female lawyers attending the Legal Training Institute in Port Moresby.
O’Rouke said the MPIP PNG had only one scholarship to assist women achieve tertiary education through a scholarship fund. It targets health, agriculture and education.
Mosoro will be graduating with a bachelor’s degree in law this month.
“It’s no secret. I am blessed, I am humbled and amazed at this achievement,” she said
“It is an honour to be the first recipient of this award. I hope that this award will leave behind the legacy of late Ruby, and I know it will.”
Mosoro is encouraging young women to grab similar opportunities.
“There’s a lot out there. We just can’t be lazy and wait for our parents or adults to spoon-feed us,” Mosoro said.
“God is good. And as long as you work hard and continue to do that, I know blessings will come.”
