Law society condemns assault

THE Papua New Guinea Law Society has condemned the alleged assault on the Young and Williams law firm employee Pala Wagula and views the matter as serious, saying that those responsible should be dealt with.
In a statement, the society council said “while the society respects the claim made by the Prime Minister James Marape that the report of the assault was “fake news”, the matter needs to be fully investigated and if an alleged assault did occur, those responsible should be dealt with accordingly.
“The serving of court documents is part of the legal process and any attempt to hinder the serving of such documents could constitute contempt.
“However, it may mean that more work needs to be done to ensure that officers of the Prime Minister’s department are more respectful in the carrying out of their duties given the office they represent,” the statement read.
“The society, being an important mouthpiece for lawyers throughout Papua New Guinea, would like to see the Prime Minister’s office as a neutral venue for people with legitimate interests, to enter to do business and serve documents.”

  • Full support for the law society.
Again the Prime ministers department is acting beyond its powers and thinks they are above the law and can do whatever they want without any reprocutions.
Another reason we have no confidence in this Government.

  • It is a sad history in png to see and read about the nasty incident that happened inside the highest office of the LAND. THE OFFICE OF THE PRIME MINISTER OF PNG. The one who said ” I Quote ” To make PNG a richest black nation on earth. Many PM come and goes, but the office remain neutral to serve the needs of nation. Every officer in that office must treat every citizen with high RESPECT. Because that office belongs to the people of PNG. Please fix up that hooligans who throws the nasty punch. Humility vs anger and greed.

  • How could this be? Indeed, the Prime Minister’s office is a neutral venue for people with legitimate interests, to enter to do business and serve documents.”
This is an unethical act and disrespect to the office of PM, thus the perpetrators are to litigate.
