Lawlessness in Erima needs to be addressed

Letters

I AM an extremely concerned citizen living in Port Moresby.
The daily commute has become an absolute nightmare in navigating the lawlessness that is getting worse at Erima.
I am a victim of such armed hold ups, one in which I was charged with driving undue care and attention after smashing my way in between a bus and a truck to escape armed bandits.
My experiences have fallen on deaf ears of the authorities (police, local members and members of Parliament) I have already written to in the hope there will be some positive change that transpires, but unfortunately the only thing I have received is silence.
I do understand with election timing that resources are stretched but the area has been a concern for some years now as has been my communications of concern to authorities.
It’s the main thoroughfare to a lot of new housing estates as well as the gateway to the international and domestic airports and has just been left as a growing basket case for illegal settlements and the problems that come with poverty, unemployment and transient people.
Not to mention an absolute disgusting eyesore for a capital city.
I am not the only one who is sick and tired of having to be stressed every time you drive through this main thoroughfare, especially when you’re minding your own business just going about your daily grind.
Enough is enough.
I am not sure what it will take?
Repatriation of settlers, removal of traffic lights a police presence at peak work times, a police shop under the bridge area?
Maybe coordinated military/police exercises, closure of the median strip to an overpass?
Anything at all to stop what is currently happening in this area.
They can simply start by cementing the great holes at the Erima Wildlife Roundabout outbound which they constantly place gravel in to be washed away exposing massive potholes, which slows traffic (wrecks cars) and aids the criminal elements.
If they can come to put up politicians name in a garden beside the roundabout, then surely someone can come and tar the holes.
Please authorities and members of parliament, as you are elected as leaders of the people.
We the people are asking you to please help what is fast becoming an escalating out of control situation that needs to be addressed.
