A GROUP of 21 female employees of the Department of Justice and Attorney-General have completed a leadership training to promote gender equity at work.

The female managers and officers were recently presented with certificates after completing training on women in a leadership role conducted by Dr Elaine Harding from the Cairns Institute of James Cook University.

The participants included acting solicitor-general Jubilee Tindiwi, deputy solicitor-general Faith Barton-Keene, deputy state-solicitor Jeklin Talonou, acting deputy state-solicitor Jena Kuliniasi and acting director probation services Susie Vuvut.

Department secretary Dr Lawrence Kalinoe said the training dealt with the kind of work culture “we would like to encourage in the department.” He said similar training sessions would be organised for the law and justice sector agencies in the country.

The department is supporting the awareness and strengthening of gender equality.

It is reviewing its HIV/AIDS and Equal Employment Opportunities policies.

“Some of the high positions in the department are held by women who have shown the potential and dedication throughout their years of work and have moved up the ranks,” he said.
