A LAWYER has urged Morobe Governor Luther Wenge to resign for failing to act decisively on lawlessness in the province.
Kelly Naru also said Ahi landowners should not give their land away to squatters.
Ahi man Naru said the Morobe provincial government had taken a casual approach to the lawlessness in the city which resulted in the recent ethnic uprising. It ended up with local youths rioting and attacking highlanders residing in Lae.
Naru was addressing people who attended the opening of a new church building at Mare, one of the biggest villages in Wampar local level government area of Huon district.
He said the unfortunate event which claimed eight lives and costs millions of kina in damage should not have happened.
He said the provincial government had its priorities wrong when it spent people’s money on expensive court cases such as the enhanced cooperation programme (ECP), the govenor-general’s case and the Value Added Tax.
He said the money should have been better spent on addressing the law and order problems.
He said this was also the result of the removal of the Australian federal police under the ECP by Wenge in court.
