THE delay in the appointment of a permanent provincial administrator for Hela has affected the delivery of goods and services, a council president claims.
Awi-Pori local level government president Ailo Arapa told The National on Tuesday that there were no government services in the districts because public servants were waiting for the results of positions advertised to be processed.
He said the public servants were not working while waiting for their positions to be confirmed.
Arapa added that there was no permanent provincial administrator to deal with the public servants.
He said the provincial executive council (PEC) was yet to submit the names of candidates to the Public Service Commission and the National Executive Council to make the appointment.
“Hela is a new province and there are many work to be done and I call on Governor Anderson Agiru, as chairman of the PEC, to call an urgent meeting and submit names of three candidates to the authorities for their consideration and final blessings,” he said.
Arapa said William Bando was now acting administrator and did not have the power to make decisions concerning the public servants.
“Without a permanent provincial administrator, divisional heads and public servants appointed, the province is going nowhere,” he said.
Arapa also said that Bando should be confirmed as provincial administrator to allow him to continue what he done as chief executive officer of Hela during the transitional period.
He said Bando did a good job as CEO and should continue his initiatives.
