A LEADER in Namatanai, New Ireland, has praised the current political leadership in the province.

Amimis Michael, the member for ward seven in the Namatanai local level government, said the environment was conducive for improved opportunities in New Ireland compared to the past 10 years.

“Namatanai district is changing, business is booming. From the first and only Namatanai Secondary School up to 2007, there are now five secondary schools. There are  three more high school in New Hanover, Tanir and Nasko and other existing high schools including Madina, Mongop are all undergoing major refurbishment worth more than K30 million,” Michael said.

Community leader Epinari Golam also said that during the Limus structure years most infrastructures in the province were “completely rundown”.

Golam said the people of Namatanai should now concentrate on building a bright future.

“We are experiencing developments since elections less than a year ago and this is a clear indication of the cooperation of our MP, to move the province forward,” he said.

It is understood sealing of the Namatanai to Punam section of the Buluminski Highway is on target for completion by mid-May. Namatanai town roads and the Bo-Burakalai sealing will follow after the Punam completion.

Work is also expected to start soon on the Namatanai foreshore public park.

Milred Monoi, a strong advocate for women in the Namatanai district also praised the NIPG for their achievements and their visionary policies.

“With all the activity and development in Namatanai the rural areas are finally getting the benefits they deserve,” she said.
