THE remaining water tanks of a water project initiated by the late Kokopo MP Patrick Tammur, have gone missing from the district headquarters in Bitapaka, East New Britain.
The 37 2,000L tanks were allegedly removed by public servants from Kokopo district with the help of others last Tuesday.
The tanks were the last lot for the Duke of York local level government, while the other three LLGs of Bitapaka, Raluana and Kokopo Vunamami had received their share.
Bongian Bunbun, councillor of Mioko Palpal, on behalf of the 21 wards councillors of Duke of York, raised concern about the removal of the 37 tanks, saying it was a theft and against the Public Service Act.
He called on district authorities and member for Kokopo and East New Britain Governor Ereman ToBaining Jnr to intervene and return the tanks to the district office or penalise those responsible.
Bunbun said police had been notified.
He said it was not fair to the people of Duke of York and they had the right to complain about the removal of the tanks.
He said the tanks had been sitting at the district office for some time but no one had the right to take them away.
Bunbun appealed for immediate help from the provincial administration.
