Leaders’ meeting to address ‘dysfunction’ in public service
The National, Tuesday February 9th, 2016
NEW Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari says the inefficiency of the public sector and the need to improve it will be highlighted at next week’s 2016 Leaders’ Summit in Port Moresby.
He is preparing to host the event on February 17 and 18.
“My message to all leaders at all levels is to work together to trim this monster (public service) that is ineffective and dysfunctional,” Lupari said.
“It’s not only the work of the Chief Secretary, it’s the work of everybody.
“The reforms, the sacrifices that we are going to make are a result of the structural changes that I am going to be recommending to government in three months, and needs the support of everybody.
“We have to stop becoming too political, becoming too territorial.
“I think everybody has to realise that we need to fix the public service.
“We can have a better functioning and more effective public service.
“Policies of government, at all levels, can be effectively implemented.
“My message to leaders on (February) 17-18 is that we’ve got a challenge to create a more effective public service. I need your support to correct it and fix it.
“Get rid of the duplications, get rid of the overlaps, and get rid of the wastage.
“I need everybody’s support to do that.”
