Two ward members in East New Britain have congratulated Deputy Prime Minister and regional MP Leo Dion for his knighthood in the 2016 Queen’s Birthday honours.
Ralalar ward member David Dude and his Talakua colleague Augustine Ingirin said in a joint statement that the award was fitting for Dion.
They said he had served the country with loyalty and dedication as a police officer prior to taking up politics.
Dion was among three people who were knighted on the Queen’s 90th birthday honours list.
The others were Catholic archbishop of Port Moresby John Ribat and secretary to the governor-general Tipo Vuatha.
They will now be addressed with the title “sir”.
“On behalf of our people and voters in our wards, we congratulate Dion on his esteemed award.
“The people of East New Britain must be proud that another son of the province has been accorded with high recognition for demonstrating a loyal and dedicated service as a public servant and political leader.”
