Leaders Hekari thrash Hinamo 11-1 in women’s NSL

LADDER leaders Hekari United thrashed rookies Souths Hinamo 11-1 in the second match of the Southern Conference triple-header at Papua New Guinea Football Stadium, Port Moresby, on Saturday.
The Erickson Komeng-coached side stuck to their plan to finish off strongly as they Women’s National Soccer League heads into the second round of competition.
Striker Marie Kaipu netted six goals with another four scored by Callista Maneo before midfielder Phyllis Pala bagged a goal to seal the win for Hekari.
Komeng told The National that the two-week mid-season break helped his to improve their game strategies which they executed against Hinamo.
“Hinamo recruited well (during the transfer window period), so they were going be hard to beat,” he said.
“But because we executed our game plan well, we managed to beat them by a convincing scoreline.
“I’m happy that we still maintained our top spot going into our next match against Port Moresby Strikers.”
Meanwhile, the opening match between Central-side Amoana and Strikers ended in a 2-2 draw.
National Capital District, on the other hand, dominated rookies Bernice to win 4-0.
In the Highlands Conference, visitors Goroka upstaged Southern Highlands 7-0.
Simbu Ambai were unable to convert any goals as Mommers beat then 3-0 while the local derby match between Mt Hagen and Kuri ended scoreless.
