Leaders lack principles

Letters

Allow me to express my views in light of the recent mass defection of ministers and members from the Government to Opposition.
All parliamentarians, under the law, have every right to make their own decision on the floor of parliament and participate in democratic debates and other government business.
What we saw last Thursday was basically a demonstration of their right to engage and involve in all parliamentary engagements.
However, what worries me are the reasons behind such a move when Prime Minister James Marape could be easily disposed through the elections in the next 12 months.
There are many ways politicians could unseat the Marape government.
Why did these politicians defect?
Most of them are familiar defectors actively involved in this move to oust the prime minister.
These familiar faces are former deputy prime minister, senior ministers and senior members of parliament known for running across when not served properly on the government side.
Do leaders go to parliament with some leadership principles or you just get elected with empty cargo bags to get filled and then dump them each election time, when you return back to the people?
Do they understand the government policies that drive development; that you could deliver even using little funds you are given to?
Or do they want more through unplanned and schemed moves?
As a citizen, I say you leaders have no shame.
No shame at all for trying to destroy a government who is doing everything to lay solid foundations for development.
A classic example is the review of mining and negotiating benefits from Porgera gold mine which sets a precedent for other PNG mines and resource projects, the passage of the Independent Commission Against Corruption Bill and a whole lot of key reforms the country needed. These defecting leaders have no principle and no plans yet.
All they want is money and projects, even if it’s not one of their priorities but just to burn up public funds.
Some of those leaders are a bunch of conmen who win elections through deception and play on the ignorance of the voters.
You have not delivered in the last 20 years.
Even if you successfully move a motion of no confidence, you will not deliver in 12 months.
Parliamentary democracy is not for any hooligans to toy around for personal glory.
PNG, please I urge you all to rise up and condemn this act of insanity by selfish and corrupt politicians.

  • Thank you brother. Rightly hit the nail on the head.
Vote these bunch of clowns out in 2022, led by Belden Namah.

  • People have given their mandate to the elected members.
Elected members can do whatever they want in the 5 years they have and face the judgement by people next election.
That is allowed in the constitution whether we like it or not.
