THE recent revelation by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill on focusing on health, education, infrastructure development, agriculture and small businesses (The National, Nov 4) is what the people of this nation have been longing for.

For good leaders such as O’Neill to put himself in the shoes of ordinary folks, who are struggling to sustain their daily needs and for him to address the issues affecting the people is appreciated.

All the MPs come from rural settings and they cannot deny the hardships faced in villages or pretend that their electorates are well off.

Those in power from the national level down to local level governments should collaborate to deliver basic services to both rural and urban communities.

With the current mineral resource boom, money should be carefully budgeted, better utilised and equally distributed to all citizens in the form of service delivery as stipulated in the Constitution.

If our leaders are focused on serving the interest of the people, there will be a decline in urban drift, prostitution, street beggars and lawlessness.

In addition, Vision 2050 would not be just a dream, but a reality that is achievable.
