Leaders should serve people’s interests

LAST month I wrote to both dailies about contentment and greed for money resulting in human downfalls.
Politics in PNG and worldwide today is being played by smart politicians with business-minded people using money as power under corrupt practices to gain the upper hand and political control over a nation.
Recent revelations by Finance Minister Rainbo Paita that more than K62 million of public funds was made to one political party’s MPs and few others is an example and a very serious allegation which need further investigation.
Many Papua New Guineans fail to understand why some of our leaders want more.
Leaders were elected by the people to represent them in Parliament. Getting into Parliament is not to become rich or being the prime minister.
Such mentality leads to leaders being power hungry and greed.
Man should learn to be content with God’s blessings and help to develop our nation, provinces and districts.
Help others in need.
Leaders should look at themselves not as bosses but servants of the people who elected them into the high office to make laws and delivery services.
Greedy and power-hungry politicians will always be blinded by money and power.
Selfish leaders will end up breaking the laws of God and the country to destroy themselves.
Let us be mindful that many of our people are still living below the poverty line.
When people lose confidence in our leaders, we will experience law and order problems and other community disorders.
We should continue to pray for the Marape-led government, the Opposition leader Belden Namah and other MPs leading up to the 2022 national election.
Let God choose our next generation of leaders into Parliament to take this country forward.
