COMMUNITY leaders in Tent City have thanked the Ahi people and residents of the Lae urban area for voting the first woman to be the member for Lae.
Sam Oyaya said Loujaya Toni would be able to offer more for the people in service delivery and basic infrastructure.
“We, the volunteers for law and order and leaders of Tent city, congratulate Toni as the elected MP for Lae,” he said.
Oyaya, who is the deputy chairman of the Morobe Independent Peace Community, said for too long volunteer groups working to keep peace and good order in communities had been ignored.  No funding was available to help them carry out work.
“We, the community leaders, appeal to the members forming the new government to recognise us and provide funding to help police reduce crime in the city,” Oyaya said.
“We have confidence the Ialibu-Pangia MP Peter O’Neill will form the next government because for the past few months he has providing free education, free health services and introduced the “Stret Pasin Stoa Scheme” through the National Development Bank.”
