PAPUA New Guinea Defence Force commander Gilbert Toropo sees leadership as the backbone of the military.
“Since I took command in 2014, I have seen leadership as the backbone of this organisation’s success and over the years it has been my priority to see a leadership capability directorate established,” he said.
He was speaking at the opening of the first Defence Force leadership course at the Kokoda Trail Motel in Central. He said the force’s leadership framework was launched towards the end of last year.
“Though we might not have enough funds to bring this organisation forward, it takes a strong and good leadership to achieve what we want to achieve with the limited resources we have,” Toropo said.
The course is for a week and it is being facilitated by the force’s Directorate of Leadership Development with the help of the New Zealand Defence Force. It ends tomorrow.
Taking part are the commanding officers, regimental sergeant majors and force directors and Defence Departmental heads.
