Lae-based fashion designers and models have been given a chance to participate in the PNG Fashion Week in Port Moresby.
A partnership between PNG Air and PNG Fashion Week Ltd will see, for the first time, PNG Fashion Week host an event in Lae.
PNG Fashion Week Ltd managing director Philma Kelegai said PNG Air would fly one designer and one model from Lae Fashion Week to Port Moresby.
“This is a landmark deal because it goes beyond traditional sponsorship,” she said.
“PNG Air will become the official airline of all PNG Fashion Week events in 2018.”
Lae Fashion Week will be held on Oct 20 at the Lae Yacht Club.
Kelegai said the Lae winners would participate in the spring season of PNG Fashion Week on Nov 22-24.
There were plans to host one show per region in future.
PNG Air acting chief executive Paul Abbot said the airline was pleased to help develop PNG talent.
“This is a wonderful programme being developed to showcase PNG fashion and the talent that is out there,” he said.
Abbott said the sponsorship was fitting because the airline’s brand had elements that represented contemporary PNG.
He said PNG Air would offer travel packages during Lae Fashion Week and customers of those packages would have free entry into PNG Fashion Week events.
