League AGM on course despite case

PNG Rugby Football league (PNG­RFL) acting general manager Ivan Ravu said the league’s annual general meeting would proceed as advertised this Saturday in Lae.
He said he was not aware of the court action taken to stop the AGM from taking place.
“We (PNGRFL) have not received anything, not even a summons, from anyone or group so far stating that we are being taken to court,” Ravu said.
It is believed the Highlands leagues have banned together to take the action on the grounds that the PNGRFL interim board headed by John Numapo had acted outside its power to impose a higher affiliation fee and acting in a manner detrimental to the code as well as being in contempt of court pursuant to a previous court order earlier in the year.
Ravu said he was in the process of determining which leagues in the country were affiliated and would have a clearer picture tomorrow.
Meanwhile, there is speculation that the AGM could be adjourned to give leagues more time to meet the affiliation requirements.
This could than plunge the PNGRFL into another crisis with such a move possibly in contravention of the league’s constitution.
