THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League will closely monitor dual registration of players and officials to the national body.
This was confirmed by PNGRFL chief executive officer Bob Cutmore, who advised his confederate directors to monitor registrations in order to prevent players or officials and administrators from moving in and out of the various competitions and associations making the league’s job of regulating the sport harder.
Southern Confederate director Gwaibo Mairi has taken the lead in this regard, warning his affiliates to adhere to the mother body’s constitution.
Mairi said executives, officials and/or players needed to be registered or involved with one association or league.
“It is evident that many of executives, officials and players are freely moving around from one league or association without any notification or due diligence,” Mairi said.
“The problem this creates is that control and administration of the leagues is made harder.”
“It is up to the affiliates and associations to take steps and follow advice about not allowing players to come and go as their please without some kind of control measure.
“Otherwise, without any control structure in place, the leagues will continue to be in disarray.”
Mairi said if a person was an executive or registered member of the Port Moresby Rugby League, than he or she could not hold a similar post in another league.
He warned affiliated leagues, executives, players and officials that dual registration was a thing of the past when control and administrative protocols were lax.
Mairi said those executives occupying multiple positions or were involved in more than one competition were doing themselves, the players, and the leagues an injustice.
Meanwhile, Mairi will visit Popondetta, Northern, this week to inspect the local venue and facilities in order to make a decision on where to stage the Southern Zone trials, which are set for August.
