FOURTEEN member clubs of the Port Moresby rugby league competition, women’s teams and the local referees should start working together to prepare for the 2012 season.
In its tentative calendar released recently, the season is expected to start next March.
Tarangau will meet Butterflies in their opening match in what is expected to be replay of the grand final, Brothers will face Paga Panthers, Souths take on Hawks and Defence lock horns with Kone Storm.
In the other games, Maiari Eagles play Kone Tigers, Royals clash with West and Magani face Dobo Warriors.
There will be a four-week pre-season tournament starting in February.
PRL football manager McKenzie Maino said with a full board in place after the AGM last Saturday, there should be no excuses for the lack of preparations from clubs.
“Everyone should work hard and look forward to a bumper season,” he said.
“It is understood the board held its first meeting and have a working plan in place.
“Next year (2012) will be the “Year of compliance” and everyone associated with the clubs must dedicate their efforts to ensure an exciting start to the season,” Maino said.
He said the referees should also improve on their performance next season.
“They must add tenacity to their preparations for the new season.”
Another area of concern is the age eligibility for the U19 division and the re-introduction of the reserve grade to provide an avenue for players dropped from the senior grade.
