PNG Power Ltd chief executive officer John Tangit says a water leakage at Sirinumu dam is nothing to panic about.

Tangit (pictured) was responding to a Sogeri businessman’s concern about a number of leaking saddle dams on the perimeter of the main dam outside Port Moresby.

“The situation is not that critical,” Tangit said.

“At the moment, we’re doing dam audits. But the asset doesn’t sit in our books at the moment. The asset literally sits in IPBC books.

“We’ve got a strategy on how we can manage all those, including dam assets.

“But if you’re talking about seepage side of the dam, that’s very minimal.

“As far as we’re concerned, it’s controllable by engineering standards of the dam structures. So it’s not really a concern.”

Eda Ranu chief executive officer Henry Mokono said Sirinumu was the responsibility of PNG Power and his company was only a secondary user of water from the dam and other catchments such as Rouna.
