Learn lessons from commission of inquiry

Letters

FORMER treasurer and Aitape-Lumi MP Patrick Pruaitch has shed some light on the Commission of Inquiry into the loan acquired by the Government from the Union Bank of Switzerland.
The inquiry is understood to be on the final stages.
What’s next?
If there is a lesson to learn here, there should be safeguards and due processes in place, particularly limitations on how much to take in comparison to gross domestic product and per capita basis.
How and why can a nation such as Papua New Guinea, given the current economic indicators, see fit to go ahead and borrow the massive K3 billion in loans?
There should be safeguards in place to minimise future risks, by passing legislations as a processes of taking such massive loans.
The outcome of this inquiry should do justice to the citizens and serve as a deterrence for future political leaders to repeat the same mistake.
