Learn, respect human rights

Every time I read the newspaper, I see young men being gunned down as animals during armed robberies, husbands bashing their wives to death during arguments, people being slashed to death over land disputes and helpless women accused of sorcery being torched to death.
Many have no regard of our laws.
This is what’s happening in the country.
Looking back at these issues, I believe people still lack the knowledge about human rights.
It is obvious people still lack the understanding about democracy.
People have to understand that we are a democratic nation and one of the pillar of democracy is human rights, if I’m correct.
On the other hand, we are a Christian nation and we stand against these barbaric acts since they contradict our Christian faith.
These human rights issues are a blockage to the development of this nation.
When such issues arise, it attracts criticism from other countries, which in turn affects our country economically and socially.
So people should understand and know their rights in order to avoid these types of issues.
We are not living in the stone age anymore, we had been developed through Christianity.
I believe every individual of this nation is competent, however, they still lack the knowledge about their individual rights.
I am writing this article to call upon the United Nations and the Government to do more awareness on the individual rights of a person.
