Lecturers’ conduct gone astray

Letters

SOCIETY expects teachers not only to impart knowledge and skills to the young ones or trainees, but, more importantly, to become role models to their and society in general.
Likewise, our teacher training institutions are expected to set high moral standards and professional conduct.
Yes, teaching is a greater calling.
Even our Good Lord was known as rabbi (teacher) in Biblical times.
However, it is sad to hear rumours or allegations of unprofessional conduct among teacher trainers at one of the country’s oldest and biggest teacher training institutions in the country.
There are rumours that some male lecturers at the college are in possession of pornographic movies on their phones or flash drives.
In one occasion, a female lecturer caught her husband (a lecturer) watching the “blue” movie with another male lecturer and reported the matter to police.
Some of these male lecturers have attempted to share those movies with female lecturers at the college.
This is not all.
There are some male lecturers who make unwanted sexual advances onto female lecturers while others ask their female colleagues on dates to lodges.
What a shame!
There are a good number of committed and disciplined teaching staff at the college, but those “bad apples” must be stopped.
The more this practice continues, it will affect the learning, and eventually, the conduct of the students these lecturers are in charge of.
The college administration and the governing council should not turn a blind eye on these issues once they are reported to them.
