Legalise gambling and sex industry

Letters, Normal

I understand many people will not agree with me but let me have my say.
Firstly, gambling and sex industry will indirectly improve and boost our tourism industry.
I have no doubt whatsoever about that.
Both are capable of generating multi-billion kina for the country.
Look at tiny Macau.
It is overtaking Las Vegas as the gambling capital of the world.
PNG needs to be developed and it needs money to do that.
We can achieve that without having to compromise our culture or ethnicity.
I am confident that overseas investors will swarm this nation if we were to legalise them.
Secondly, gambling and sex industry have nothing to do with us being a Christian country.
Can anyone tell me which Christian country in the world has no gambling or sex industry?
Many Australians are Christians and so are the Americans.
Both countries are attracting serious and big-time gamblers to their casinos.
Thus, it is pathetic to use “Christianity” in the arguments against gambling.
After all, every Papua New Guinean knows this country is corrupt in all aspects of life.
Isn’t corruption against Christianity?
The good news is if we were to legalise gambling and sex industry, God will not take away all our natural resources overnight.
It is poor human management that causes that.
Who will disagree on this fact?
Finally, every individual is free to do as he pleases.
It is up to the individual whether to gamble or to pay or make a living from sex.
If you are rational and use your God-given brains, you know what is right and wrong.
But the fact is we must not allow our cultural and societal taboos to become a hindrance in pursuit of our country’s development.
