Legion marks 100yrs

Faith

MEMBERS of the Legion of Mary from 17 parishes in Chimbu celebrated its centenary this week.
The Legion of Mary is a Catholic organisation whose members serve the church on a voluntary basis.
The celebration started on Monday at the St Joseph Mingende parish in Kerowagi and ended yesterday with a mass conducted by Catholic diocese of Kundiawa Bishop Paul Sundu.
The Legion of Mary started in Europe on Sept 7, 1921, and was introduced into Kundiawa 39 years ago.
Bishop Sundu, in his homily, said he wanted the Legion of Mary to be established in every outstation in the province.
He said St Mary was the patron of the Kundiawa diocese and urged parishioners to pray rosary every day.
Bishop Sundu said God had chosen Mary to be the mother of Christ. St Joseph Mingende parish’s Fr Cosmas Kombla said the Legion of Mary was a powerful group within the church.
Fr Kombla said that St Mary knew about Jesus Christ’s 33-year life on earth more than anyone else.
He said the Holy Bible only captured some of Jesus’s life on earth, but the full story was with his mother, St Mary.
