Lelang: Release budget report

SHADOW Treasurer Joseph Lelang yesterday raised concerns over the failure by the government to release the 2019 final budget outturn (FBO) report this year.
Lelang said it was a legal requirement under the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) that the Government, through Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey, release the 2019 FBO on March 31.
“Why is the Government delaying the publication of the 2019 FBO Report? The FRA promotes fiscal transparency and public scrutiny over the Government’s past spending decisions. We are 20 days late and already in breach of the FRA legislation,” he said.
Lelang urged the Treasurer and his department to comply with the legislation and disseminate the 2019 FBO publicly otherwise “Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey must come out and tell the nation why this report is held back”.
