TOURISM in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville can be a big money-earner, if packaged properly, says Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Isi Henry Leonard
He opened the Siwai Culture Show in South Bougainville last Friday, saying the region had a lot to offer through its natural flora, fauna and war relics.
He said heritage parks should be established and registered for tourism.
Leonard said culture was now the focus of tourism because of the ban on international tourists.
“Tourism based on culture can bring millions,” he said.
“A world research reported that tourism based on culture has a net value of US$450 billion (about K1 trillion). I am happy to say that the Siwai Culture Show is registered, it is certified by the National Cultural Commission and every year the Government will give you funding (to host the show).”
South Bougainville MP Timothy Masiu and Bougainville President Ishmael Toroama attended the show.
