Leprosy issue

Letters

SLDP (Sustainable livelihood development project) is a project that was initiated by the Leprosy Mission of PNG and with support from the New Zealand and Australia Leprosy Mission.
The purpose of that project is to look after/support people who have leprosy and have disabilities due to leprosy and their family members.
The project money comes from the donors from the New Zealand and Australia governments.
And that money is supposed to support leprosy people directly, for instance, provide water tank for communities where they don’t have good water source, instead the Leprosy Mission PNG has put it in the bank (Women’s Micro Bank) and told leprosy patients to access that money through a loan system.
Most of the leprosy patient have permanent disabilities due to leprosy and discrimination is a thing that will keep them away from doing their daily activities and socialising.
Why should a leprosy patient repay that money through loan system? A loan is a money that someone/the borrower can use temporary.
After a defined period of time, the money is repaid to the owner, usually with interest or a fee charged for use of the money.
So stop using leprosy people and their family’s for your own benefits.
