MADANG Christian Academy Year 12 science student Lesmiller Pawa is the winner of the Sumatin Enterprise Programme writing competition for Grade 12 students.
Activity director Andrew Runawery said applicants were invited to write an essay on the “opportunities and challenges faced by rural entrepreneurship and trade” in their area.
Pawa wrote about the owners of Gauns Trading, Leo and Barbara Baig in Rempi village, North Coast, Madang.
Pawa told of how the couple established their trade store from the income they earned from coconut and betel nut trade.
Grace Memorial Secondary school in Wau, Bulolo, in Morobe was the winner last year.
“We were thrilled by the response and enjoyed reading the papers received,” Runawery said.
“Entries were judged by a volunteer panel from the Education services using a basic judging criteria with an eye for entrepreneurial content relevant to the theme and use of language and dialogue.”
Second place went to Gapenuoc Forgison of Malahang Secondary in Lae who wrote about the News Land Coffee Association in Finschhafen.
Third place went to Sihem Kamako of the Port Moresby International School who wrote about the women SMEs in Okapa, Eastern Highlands.
