FOR the nation to experience change and to see development taking place, it must have quality and God-fearing leaders, Western Highlands’ chief leader Michael Pundia said last Saturday.
Speaking at a drug surrender programme at Kolge Village outside Mt Hagen city, Pundia said if a leader
was not performing, it would sent the wrong signal to the people.
He said for a nation to experience and face change it would depend on good leadership.
Pundia, who is an aspiring candidate for the Western Highlands provincial seat in the coming general election, said that many leaders had not been performing.
He said with the elections next year “many candidates will come and make empty promises to the people so that they can vote them into power”.
Pundia said people should be aware of such people who would claim to deliver goods and services if they were voted into power.
“I’m sick and tired of people who make empty promises and do not give or deliver what they have promised,” he said.
“This is happening everyday and yet people have been forced
into doing this or that because of their bad (leaders) influence,” Pundia said.
He said they had to speak the truth and give back what rightfully belonged to the people.
He said people now had the power to elect a leader and “this time they must not let anyone bribe or influence them with any promises”.
Pundia said if people did not change their mindset and continued to give in to sweet talk it would not help their children.
He said for the drugs addicts to do away with their bad habits “is a big change for the province and the nation”.
He said such programmes needed funding and support and “it is very important that a leader gets involved”.
