Let Sir Mekere’s son take his place

Letters

I express my condolences to the family of late former prime minister and Moresby North West MP Sir Mekere Morauta.
The petition by a couple of groups in Moresby North West to Electoral Commission to halt the by-election is unwelcomed.
Everyone in the electorate should have a representative in parliament despite death, MPs retiring or other reasons for leaving office.
As such, Moresby North West is no exception, given the death of Sir Mereke.
If these groups feel that commitments made by late Sir Mereke will not be fulfilled, I suggest that the concerned groups and immediate family and relatives of late Sir Mereke discuss and endorse his son Dr James to contest the by-election.
Dr James is the right candidate to fulfil and continue his father’s legacy.
Many of us will rally behind Dr James as we believe that he will continue to serve people of Moresby North West electorate and the country.
It is up to the family of late Sir Mereke to decide but the nation is behind the notion to give Dr James a fair go to continue his father’s work.
