THIS is in response to an online article on www.radioaustralia.net.au  entitled Pacific Games 2015: Battered Micronesia soccer team coach Stan Foster undeterred by team’s crushing defeats by Richard Ewart on 8 July 2015. See the full story in http://www.radioaustralia.net.au/international/2015-07-08/pacific-games-2015-battered-micronesia-soccer-team-coach-stan-foster-undeterred-by-teams-crushing-de/1467446 .

I was touched by the spirit of determination and courage shown by the whole team after reading that article.

Never mind the 100 odd points scored against them. Instead of being discouraged, they look to the future, seeing today’s defeats as stepping stone to build a strong and competitive Micronesian Soccer Team.

I decided to copy and circulate the article in my email contacts.

And what a response I got from my fellow Papua New Guinean.

This is the true spirit of sports at the Pacific Games.

Never mind winning and never mind losing.

Courage, determination and friendship created in the games is what counts most in sport because it is a lifelong experience only one can experience.

May the true spirit of sports and friendship during these Games and beyond.

Go the Pacific!
