Let’s bring O’Neill back

Letters

THE former prime minister and Ialibu-Pangia MP Peter O’Neill was only half right when he said we were approaching a failed state status.
We are already there.
Read the first four pages of The National last Thursday.
There were random murders allegedly by policemen, massive misappropriation by senior public servants and other crimes.
There were heinous sexual crimes against children as young as four, allegedly by those in positions of trust and even fathers against their own children.
Almost every day, you read about rape and child molestation.
Among those news are empty promises by politicians about projects that we have don’t have the money or expertise for.
It’s just early signs of campaigning.
There was a ludicrous statement by Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey of a 10 per cent growth rate but still, there are no reports on the Apec Summit in 2018.
There are no resolution about what to do with the expensive cars acquired for the summit.
There are no clear records of Covid-19 expenditure.
Criminal cases are continuously thrown out of court.
We have prison breakouts, police brutality, police theft of property and corruption in the National Housing Corporation.
We have tribal fights and killing innocent women and children over minor quarrels, continuous blackouts, small businesses monopolised by foreign nationals and yet again, we’ve adjourned parliament for four months to fight the surge in Covid-19 cases.
The fight against Covid-19 has little to do with parliament carrying out its proper functions.
They adjourned parliament purposely to deny the Opposition’s shot at a motion of no confidence.
Come back O’Neill.
We are losing hope.
At least O’Neill has a record of achievements.
