Let’s continue the peace in Gulf

Letters

GULF has done well so far in regards to the General Election 2022 without any major issues, unlike what’s happening in some parts of the country.
And as the province hits the home stretch with counting to start in Kerema in the next few days, let us end it well and be an example to other parts of PNG which have been struck by all sorts of issues.
As a Papua New Guinean, there are so many things we need to start fixing to return our country to what it used to be in the 1970s and 1980s.
We didn’t have the kind of money that we have now from our rich natural resources nor did we have the law and order issues we are now facing.
There are many reasons for this and the next group of leaders we send into Parliament have to also put themselves under the microscope and put the country first rather than just their own personal interests to get us onto the road of recovery.
We don’t need to be rocket scientists, but basic indicators
like our Kina struggling against major currencies and even those weaker should be of grave concerns.
As for Gulf, with counting
to begin in Kerema, all Gulf citizens must not just pray
for a smooth ending to exercising our democratic rights to elect
the leadership we want but
we must pray that these leaders we’ve elected know right
from wrong and perform
accordingly.
Nature has its own way of
keeping the balance in life so
our appeal is to everybody involved with counting – electoral officers, candidates scrutineers etc – that each of you have a responsibility to our people to ensure we do not, in any way, compromise our rights to a just election.
We need to protect that or our next five years is what you fine gentlemen and women give us as we have entrusted our votes to you to count.
