Letters in brief

Letters

Marape hailed:
The people of Papua New Guineans should salute Tari Pori MP James Marape. Our other leaders in the government should start thinking seriously about our people and their land. Decision are being made by a minority group and those decisions are the cause of suffering in this country. Politicians should make policies that benefit the people. Marape, you are a brave leader. “Wok mas go yet, yu yet mas go pas.” (work must still go on, you take the lead),

Lost opportunities:
My fellow Papua New Guineans, look at our beautiful country and its diverse and rich cultures. We have 800 difference languages and are naturally blessed. We should be having lots of opportunities but nothing is happening because some people who occupy public offices cannot see how hard work and transparency can benefit us. This is one reason why ordinary people are suffering.

Police brutality:
What right do police officers have to assault people? Is that a behaviour learnt at Bomana Police College? Was harming people one of the tests they had to pass? Can the Police Minister and commissioner deal with this sort of behaviour in the police force? This is totally unacceptable and uncalled for. Such actions are condemned in the strongest terms.

Market problem:
I write to support the letter titled ‘Port Moresby’s market problem’, by Grace Murian, of Savannah Heights, Waigani, Port Moresby. Port Moresby is not the only place experiencing the problems listed by Grace. Those problems are common throughout PNG. Lae, Madang and Kavieng markets, for example, are also having the problem of seeing vendors from a particular ethnic group taking over almost all the space.
