LETTERS IN BRIEF

Letters

Sepik call:
The president and senior vice-president of the National Soccer League should include two teams from East and West Sepik provinces in the Momase conference NSL competition next year. The two Sepik provinces have produced some good soccer players for the national team. The provincial governments, governors, MPs, and businesshouses in these two provinces should provide financial and administrative support to help the teams participate in the 2019 NSL season.

Loans for teachers:
The Education Department should reconsider its decision to stop teachers applying for loans. That is the teachers’ right and they need the money to feed their families and meet other costs. PNG Teachers’ Association and the Teaching Service Commission should allow teachers to apply for loans so they can pay for their Christmas travel and other needs.

ILGs queried:
So much has been said and written about the Incorporated Land Groups (ILGs) listed with the Lands Department since 2012. The Lands Department is wanting some of these ILGs to reapply for registration so that proper vetting can be made. To identify the genuine ILGs from those that need to be reviewed or cancelled, the Lands secretary should make public the list, preferably as advertisements in the two daily newspapers. This will save cost and work.

Morobe highway:
The Wau-Bulolo highway in Morobe is in a very bad condition. The community leaders of Bulolo and Menyamya Open electorates have raised this problem with the authorities but their concerns have only fallen on deaf ears. The Wau-Bulolo highway was built and sealed in the early 1980s but had not been properly maintained or repaired. The people of Wau-Bulolo and Menyamya need this road to take produce to Lae. Will our MPs, Thomas Pelika and Sam Basil, please raise this issue in Parliament?
