LEWAS captain Pauke Siaka is happy with the 81-run win over Fiji but reckons there are still a few areas to sort out before they face New Caledonia tomorrow in women’s cricket.
Norma Ovasuru scored 68 runs to help the PNG Lewas to the 81-run win over Fiji yesterday.
Ovasuru combined well with the Varoi Igo Morea who had 61. Vice-captain Tanya Ruma assisted the team effort with 20 runs.
The Morea-Ovasuru combination was the best so far in the tournament. PNG will face New Caledonia tomorrow. The best bowlers for the Lewas yesterday were Veru Kila Frank (4/1) and Boni David (2/6). Siaka said she had thought the Fijians were going to put up a big performance but was happy they got out their top order batswomen early to give them the edge.
Siaka is happy with the overall performance but said there were a few areas they needed to work on before the game against Samoa.
They are looking at Samoa as the biggest threat to their campaign.
Despite the loss, the Fijians remain confident of their chances for gold as they occupied the third spot on the ladder with two wins and a loss.
Scores PNG 167, Fiji 86.
