THE Liklik Informal Business Meri Association (LIBA) will spread its network to other centres in Papua New Guinea, according to its founder and director Mary Pohei.

She said plans were already being drawn up to have the organisation established in East Sepik, Morobe and Northern.

LIBA launched its partnership programme last Friday between the National Development Bank’s women in business programme and the People Micro Bank.

“The purpose of launching its partnership with these two organisations is to promote the culture of saving as well as to do business with them,” Pohei said.

She said the National Government had injected a lot of money into NDB women in business programme and the LIBA would help women get loans to start their informal businesses.

“Women must make use of this money by applying for loan with NDB,” Pohei said.

LIBA was formed in March and based in NCD with 200 members.

She said they would like to make NCD a model province while setting up other centres.

“I want to encourage women to involve more into farming activities especially poultry. So whatever money they get from their sales they can save with NDB and later apply for a loan,” she said.

She said women could gradually venture into something big.

“LIBA is here to give technical advices, support and assistance to women on how to get loan,” Pohei said.

LIBA is also offering financial training for its members.
