THE library is the main learning resource centre or foundation for all institutions, a librarian says.

East New Britain Library Service’s librarian Gedlynn Bellie was one of the participants of the two-week-long basic library and information skills training course at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) by the information and communication science strand staff.

Speaking on behalf of participants at their graduation ceremony at UPNG last Friday, she said the life-skills based training would transform the organisations from which they had come from.

“There were a few ups and downs such as accommodation arrangements and preparations on courses to be taught,” she said.

“Preparations should be made in advance for such life skills to be effective.’’

A suggestion for an advance training was forwarded by the participants of the 2013 basic library and information skills training course.

As a librarian, Bellie has always promoted the importance of library in elementary, primary and secondary schools.

“The Department of Education is not prioritising the importance of libraries,” Bellie said.
