THE Buk Bilong Pikinini Library has enrolled over 80 students this year.
The children, ages 4 to 6 years old, enjoy their reading and learning sessions every day.
Funded by Bank South Pacific in partnership with Buk Bilong Pikinini and Manus provincial administration, the discussion started a couple of years ago with the Manus professionals for Development, known as MP4CD, during a fundraising event for the Donate-A-Book Project.
MP4CD is an association made of young Manus professionals who have created a forum to facilitate dialogue concerning development issues in their province.
Donate-A-Book project leader Dorcas Sevua said the journey to having a library for kids in Manus as a challenging but satisfying one.
“Having to contribute back to my province in a small way is really satisfying; there is a sense of belonging and returning what I gained from my early childhood days in Lorengau,” Sevua said. “What used to be my classroom before is now a Buk Bilong Pikinini library.  I hear a lot of good news stories and cannot wait for the official opening of this library.”
