OIL and gas company Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited has given K100,000 to Life PNG Care from the proceeds of its charity golf tournament in July.
Life PNG Care is a non-government-organisation which looks after and educates children in Port Moresby.
KPHL managing director Wapu Sonk said the charity golf event would not be held annually.
Care director Colin Pake was awarded the Commonwealth Point of Light honour by the Queen for his “exceptional voluntary service” to improving the lives of vulnerable children in Port Moresby.
“The Life PNG Care is doing a tremendous job in empowering underprivileged children in Port Moresby for a sustainable future through education under Strongim Pikinini Education and Mobile Education programmes.” “We are proud to be associated with Life PNG Care as its objectives are very much aligned with Kumul Petroleum Holding’s vision which is to create opportunities for Papua New Guineans.”
Through the Strongim Pikinini Education Programme, Life PNG Care is sending 250 orphans and vulnerable children to continue their primary and secondary education in the National Capital District.
The initiative will cost about K100,000, covering school project fees, uniforms, shoes, stationeries, bus fares and lunch for the whole year.
The amount excludes costs associated with the care of 54 children who live at Family Home Care at Gerehu.
The programme is an initiative of Life PNG Care which started in 2014 to help educate orphans and unfortunate children.
