Lift standards, don’t make more excuses

FIRSTLY, it is a shame that the problems we faced in the organisation of the PNG Games are creeping into the XV Pacific Games.

Particularly, why is the medal tally not updated? Who is/are responsible for that?

It is frustrating for athletes and supporters to see their teams winning and being presented medals and yet those are not accounted for on the tally.

One country for example has won three bronze medals in va’a since Monday (July 6) – yet they have no medal listed in the tally, as of July 9, 2015. What is the problem here?

Come on, who is in charge of updating? If she or cannot do it, find someone else and let’s get the things done right away immediately if we are really hosting “the best Games ever”.

The tally should also be online for all to see.

Secondly, all commentators at the different sports venues or representing different media outlets must take a neutral stand with the comments they make.

They must not scream like a supporter for PNG. If they want to use the sound systems or airwaves to take sides, they should remove their tags and vests and join the supporters in the stands.

For these Games to be “the best ever”, we must be professional and raise standards in all aspects.

And we have only one week to do that before we give the impression that we are sloppy or do not know how to update the tally.

We must strive to be fair in all aspects to our guests – the athletes and officials from other countries in the Pacific.

Let us all raise the bar immediately.  Let us not make excuses.
