Lihir community health programme vital, says chairman

THE Lihir Island community health programme in New Ireland, is important in achieving the
much talked about Lihir destiny, Lihir Mining Area Landowners Association chairman Peter Suar said.
He said its stakeholders were prepared to make it successful for the long-term benefit of people of Lihir.
The programme is an initiative of the association.
Pledging the association’s continued support, Saur said if the people of Lihir wanted to enjoy the benefits of the programme they needed to take ownership of it and see it prosper in the future.
The Lihir sustainable development plan, under which the Lihir Islands community health programme was one of the initiatives, aims to achieve planned developments regardless of the problems encounted.
“Whatever problems we encounter will not stop us from doing what we must do to achieve the ultimate aim of the plan to improve health services to the people,” plan chairman Ben Misren said.
